Perfectly coordinated interior and exterior lighting for a timeless home

Essen’s Bredeney district features quiet, flat villa structures on vast plots of land which is the backdrop for this particular villa. A “manifesto against the much too extensive arbitrariness of today’s villa architecture”, as the architectural firm Alexander Brenner put it.

The harmonious lighting design comprised of BEGA interior and exterior luminaires underlines the coalescence of interior and exterior living spaces throughout this home. The exterior lighting highlights the important role of the patio as an additional living space.

Stainless steel LED wall luminaires with hand-blown, three-ply opal glass illuminate the entrance, while in-ground luminaires with adjustable light distribution underline the beauty of the architecture, and highlight sculptures along the façade.

The ground floor of the villa, with kitchen, dining area and an expansive living room, stands tall with 13 foot ceilings. Rows of recessed ceiling luminaires, featuring hand-blown, three-ply opal glass, create a unified lighting ambiance across all three areas.

The generously proportioned table in the dining area is lit by die-cast pendants with thick-walled crystal glass for excellent visual comfort. The living area connects to the split level private wing via the entrance hall, where the staircase is lit by an opal glass wall luminaire.

Small, in-ground LED luminaires accent the patio, which act as markers, and lead the eye along the boundary of the patio. A simple, cubic garden pavilion marks the end of the patio and creates a focal point for the outdoor living space.

The beauty of the front garden and expansive main garden is highlighted by a variety of BEGA products. Drive-over LED in-ground luminaires with symmetrical and asymmetrical light distribution are placed throughout green areas and flower beds. Earth spike mounted floodlights may be quickly adjusted to meet new requirements, such as plant growth, at any time.

Linear recessed RGB luminaires create a varied and playful lighting ambiance at the basement level. The color can easily be changed depending on the time of year, flowers in season or mood of the homeowner. This completes a perfect combination of light and architecture.
