Bridging Communities with Light and Unity
In the heart of Omaha, Nebraska, a visionary project known as the Tri-Faith Commons aimed to cultivate understanding and harmony among three distinct religious communities: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. At the center of this project stood Abraham’s Circle, a physical manifestation of unity designed to connect these faiths symbolically and physically.
Initiated in 2006, the Tri-Faith Commons embarked on a mission to foster dialogue, respect, and friendship among diverse religious traditions. The bridge aimed to facilitate interaction and understanding while serving as a beacon of hope for future generations. Designed to link the three faith-based institutions—Temple Israel, Countryside Community Church, and The American Muslim Institute—the structure symbolized the shared values of peace, cooperation, and coexistence.
TEN x TEN approached the landscape design with a deep understanding of the project's symbolic significance. Embracing the principles of inclusivity and harmony, the firm envisioned a landscape that seamlessly integrated with the bridge, fostering a sense of connection and tranquility. Native vegetation, serene water features, and contemplative green spaces were strategically incorporated to evoke a sense of spiritual renewal and reflection.
Olsson, renowned for its expertise in engineering and infrastructure design, took the lead in realizing the bridge's architectural vision. Collaborating closely with TEN x TEN, the firm employed innovative engineering techniques to ensure the bridge's structural integrity and longevity. Spanning gracefully across the site, the bridge's elegant silhouette served as a testament to both human ingenuity and the enduring power of collaboration.
Olsson also played a crucial role in illuminating Abraham’s Circle with a captivating lighting design. Drawing inspiration from the project's spiritual significance, the firm designed the lighting to accentuate the bridge's architectural features while creating a sense of warmth and welcome. Recessed wall luminaires create soft, ambient lighting, enveloping the structure and inviting visitors to stroll along the bridge and embrace the spirit of unity that permeates the space.
