The center of campus activities
Palomar Community College (PCC) invested in two new buildings at the heart of campus which replaced some of their much older and outdated facilities. The Multidisciplinary Building is a 110,000 sq. ft., three-story structure with panoramic mountain range views and features a central courtyard that provides ample outdoor space for students and faculty to enjoy, while also offering more daylight for classrooms located in the center of the building.
Adjacent to the Multidisciplinary Building is the LEED Gold Certified Humanities Building, a two-story, 70,000 sq. ft. facility which successfully reused the foundation of the previous building in that space to minimize waste and reduce cost. Construction of both structures was simultaneous, and though each project was managed by a different general contractor, the completed project was a cohesive success.
As the center of campus activity, the pathways and courtyards around these two buildings are busy both day and night and are safely lit by BEGA luminaires. Light building elements and their complementary bollards illuminate large courtyards and various pathways with unique distributions of light. Pole-top luminaires paired with pedestrian-scale poles light paths between buildings. A variety of recessed wall luminaire styles illuminate small plazas where students meet with their classmates.
