The new IONIS Pharmaceuticals Corporate Headquarters and R&D Campus located in Carlsbad, California, has become the corporate home for the industry leader in developing programs focused on treating cardiovascular, metabolic and severe neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer.

Completed in September 2011, this 176,000-sq.-ft., state-of-the-art research facility was completed in just 13 months and came in both on-time and under budget. The project achieved LEED-NC Gold certification from the US Green Building Council.

The building design utilizes numerous sustainable features throughout the campus including maximum use of natural lighting, drought-resistant native landscaping and solar panels.

Highlights of the facility include multipurpose-flexible designed work spaces, laboratories, an outdoor meeting and dining area, and site walking trail. In such an innovative environment, attention to detail is key. This unique building design promotes both innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The interior and exterior spaces are seamlessly integrated, creating an open feel throughout the building. There is plenty of outdoor space for relaxation and informal meetings. This also allows tenants to take advantage of the beautiful ocean views.

BEGA lighting solutions are used throughout the campus. Bollards and matching light building elements can be found lining pathways, walking trails, and throughout various outdoor spaces. At night, in-ground fixtures are discretely used to highlight a planter that features native, drought-resistant plants. The wall mounted fixtures found around the exterior of the building blend in as an architectural feature during the day, but have a dual-purpose, up/down lighting effect at night.
