Helsinki Music Center
The new Music Center in Helsinki, Finland is a state-of-the-art facility and home to the Sibelius Academy, as well as two symphony orchestras. Acoustics specialist, Yasuhisa Toyota, played a major role in the overall design, with sound quality at the forefront of each architectural decision. The building features large glass walls, complemented by green pre-patinated copper for timeless integration into the surrounding landscape.
BEGA pole top luminaires illuminate the roadways and large walkways leading up to the Music Center. An adjustable head on these luminaires provides flexibility for the lighting designer where slightly different lighting distributions are required from the same fixture type. Fully shielded BEGA bollards line the many pathways across this campus, guiding visitors to the main entrance.
BEGA cylindrical, LED downlights were chosen to light the entrance to the main hall where guests immediately notice the grand staircase. Two shielded recessed wall luminaires accent each step, creating ribbons of light which guide concertgoers to their seats. Additional unshielded recessed luminaires provide additional task lighting on the staircase from the large, supporting wall. Recessed luminaires with an asymmetric wide spread light distribution were selected for yet another application in the open stairwell of the adjacent music academy.
