A warm family home filled with BEGA

After seven long years spent searching for a prime location to build their dream home, Architect Christian Morschel and his family of five finally found the perfect spot. Located between forest and fields, the family constructed their home on a grassy hilltop 500 feet above Dornbirn, in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg. As the project came to fruition, the Morschel family’s long-held dream of building a custom home was fulfilled at last. A home that is illuminated inside and out by BEGA luminaires.

Looking out into the distance through the glass façade of Hohlen House creates an instant connection to nature and provides expansive views as far as the eye can see: the mountains of Switzerland and a glimpse of Lake Constance are visible in the distance. Built on over a third of an acre and featuring 2600-square-feet of indoor space, 1100-square-feet of outdoor living space, and 9.5-foot-high ceilings, this two-story home is spacious and well-suited for this family of five. Just a few complementary materials and colors utilized in the design have created a simple aesthetic, with clean, modern lines. The ground floor is built directly into the hillside, providing a solid foundation for the upper floor, which enjoys a bright, open feeling with plenty of natural light, created by extensive floor-to-ceiling glass walls.

BEGA luminaires are used throughout the house and its surroundings: garden and pathway luminaires line the driveway, leading the way to the entrance ofthe house with directed, glare-free light. DALI-controllable compact downlights along the façade and under the roof canopy create a clear and inviting ambiance with symmetric, wide-beam light distribution. Compact floodlights with earth spikes decoratively highlight a nearby tree.

Inside the house; velvet black, shielded STUDIO LINE pendant luminaires with brass-tone interior appear to hover over the kitchen island, while the dining tables in the cleverly divided living area are illuminated by the narrow, elongated variant of the pendant luminaires from the same series. Shielded STUDIO LINE ceiling luminaires emphasize the comfort and warmth of the hallways, bathroom, and entryway. BEGA luminaires in the Hohlen house perfectly complement the overall design of this family home.
