Château d'Aigle

A 12th Century Castle in the Alps

The Swiss town of Aigle is located southeast of Lake Geneva and is framed by a fantastic alpine panorama backdrop. Near the edge of the city sits the Château d’Aigle, a 12th century castle. Once a fortress for various families throughout history, the historic building is now surrounded by vineyards and home to a wine museum.

In 2009 the exterior lighting for the château was redesigned, resulting in a 75% energy consumption reduction. BEGA floodlights and in-ground luminaires help these old walls to stand out against the beautiful landscape. The large, rectangular walls are washed with uniform light up to the roof. The shape of the rounded corner towers is highlighted by a series of narrow beam luminaires.

Opposite the château is the “Maison de la Dîme”. This renovated barn is now used as exhibition rooms where the public is invited to view the works of the Swiss artist Frédéric Rouge. BEGA compact floodlights are used to illuminate the outer façade of the barn. Careful selection of the beam angles and placement within the roof overhang allow the light distribution to accent the architecture of this old structure.
